W dniach 12-19 kwietnia 2023 r. odbyły się mistrzowskie warsztaty sztuki performance, w których udział wzięły studentki i studenci Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Łodzi. Była to 81. edycja masterclass Performance Art Studies pod hasłem „Poetry is the sister of performance”.

PAS | Performance Art Studies to niezależna platforma artystyczno-edukacyjna zajmująca się badaniami i szkoleniami w obszarze sztuki. Od 2008 roku dla osób zainteresowanych sztuką performance prowadzi intensywne studia, warsztaty, szkolenia oraz kursy mistrzowskie, kształcąc zarówno w aspekcie praktycznym, jak i teoretycznym czy filozoficznym. W centrum uwagi PAS znajduje się proces artystycznych poszukiwań – pełna otwartości i dynamiczna atmosfera pracy skupionej na wspólnym odkrywaniu, w jaki sposób sztuka performance może stać się narzędziem działań artystycznych i społecznych.

Warsztaty poprowadzili:

• BBB Johannes Deimling - artysta wizualny zajmujący się sztuką performance, filmem, rysunkiem i dźwiękiem; założyciel i dyrektor artystyczny platformy PAS.

• Monika Deimling - menedżer kreatywny, fotografka PAS, krytyczna obserwatorka i fotografka warsztatów, artystka wizualna zajmująca się fotografią, haftem i filmem.

Harmonogram PAS #81

• 12-19.04.2023 – każdego dnia zajęcia rozpoczynały się będą o godz. 10.00 trwały ok. 7-8 godzin dziennie wraz z przerwą
• 19.04.2023  – finałowa prezentacja

Zajęcia odbywały się w języku angielskim.

Concept

Poetry is an artistic language that transforms experience or an emotional response into words, their sound, rhythm and meaning. It would be very difficult to translate this complex expression because through poetry we try to understand reality in a way that is not guided by logic. It deals mainly with the absurd, surreal and abstract life experiences for which there are hardly any words, but which are present in our daily lives.

Some situations leave us speechless, some silence us, and others make us feel like we are losing our voice. Poetry offers a way back to articulate our beliefs and viewpoints by creating a wide space to interact and communicate with other genres in art and society. Performance art understood as a social art practice has a direct link to poetry because they follow a similar pattern that seeks tounderstand the world we live in. By choosing actions, movement and gestures as its main source of communication, it offers other possibilities for artistic expression. When words do not come easily, actions have the potential to articulate their meaning and significance.

Poetry and performance can be as sweet as chocolate and as strong as a sledgehammer. The combination of the two is a powerful tool of artistic expression that creates a dialogue between harmony and distortion that can expand and change our perception. Through this transformation, we actively participate in reality without getting stuck in the mud of challenges.

In this course we want to go to the border of perception, where all those amazing flowers are growing, to pick them up and create performance art works that show the bitter-sweet side of life. We will try to bend time, distort form and use the body and actions as primarily tool for poetic articulation. With various artistic and experimental arrangements, we will explore the connection between poetry and performance art and look for possible solutions in the occurring intersections. In group and individual work sessions we want to understand how poetical performance art works are necessary for this complex discourse and whether art is a socially relevant tool. To deepen and complete our research, we will present the results at the end of the course in a public presentation to an invited audience.
